Staying Fit during the Holidays
By Michelle WeissHow did you enjoy this past holiday holiday season in all its glory without packing on the weight you’ve worked so hard to lose? The team at AnswerNow are huge health nuts (some more than others) so we’re here to shine a light of optimism for you. You can enjoy holiday feasts and treats! Continue reading to see how this can all be possible.
In our break room we have a health conscious vending machine filled with everything from sandwiches to Lean Cuisine! These unique items were requested from our very own Team, and we were more than happy to fill their bellies with healthy options.
Eating healthy and portioning your meals is just one small step to a healthier you; eat more greens than stuffing, skip on the gravy and don’t fill up your plate a second time! It’s OK to try a cookie or two, but don’t overdo it! One is plenty. Another great tip is to eat a healthy salad or snack before you leave for the big feast; this can help prevent devouring too much of those calorie filled dishes!
It can also be tempting to skip on a workout during this time so AnswerNow has come up with three tips to keep you moving during the holidays:
- Shorten your cardio – Condense your routine to fit whatever time you have, even if it’s just 10 minutes. Choose activities that are easy to do like walking, running, jumping rope, or cycling.
- Include your family – Plan fun activities to do outside. Walk around the neighborhood to look at Christmas lights and decorations. Play football before the big meal. You can even plan contests with the kids to see who can run the farthest or who can do the most push-ups.
- Window Shop – Even if you’re done with Christmas shopping it can still be fun to “window shop”. There are plenty of indoor/outdoor malls to do this at, so park farther away in the lot and start moving! Plus, this will give you some ideas for next years’ wish list.
Our very own Michelle Weiss says, “I have learned over the last couple years that a balance of exercise and nutrition are extremely important. You can work out incessantly, but being healthy is 80% nutrition and 20% working out – if you don’t focus on the nutrition, it won’t matter how much you work out. Also, it’s extremely important to pay attention to why you eat. The holidays are a stressful time – when you are picking up a cookie or holiday treat, ask yourself if it’s because you really want it, or because you are stress eating.”
